KIA ORA AND WELCOME TO NUMA
NATIONAL URBAN MĀORI AUTHORITY

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.

At NUMA, we focus heavily on the development of and sustaining whānau success through our national footprint of affiliates – the Urban Māori Authorities. These members of NUMA provide numerous services across education, health, housing, justice, social and broadcast services. We support all whānau residing in the five main urban centres.

Our intention for Urban Māori is to make life better for whānau and support them in achieving their aspirations. The kaupapa we serve aligns with core Māori values and social constructs, that evidence shows are effective in helping people of all ethnicities restore balance. Whānau are at the centre of all we do. Driving this whānau-centric approach is our long-term vision for families to be: economic units, guardians of landscape, carriers of culture, gateways to Te Aō Māori (Māori worldview), models for lifestyle, and access points of community.
